Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, economies around the world have been forced to implement lockdown measures to contain the spread of the virus. This came with a price of declining economic activities, giving rise to significant challenges that have impacted the source of livelihoods of many people. Rising youth unemployment was and will remain one of the most significant problems facing Bangladesh today.

Young people aged between 15 and 24 were already facing a challenging transition into the labor market before the pandemic, and were two to three times more likely than adults to be un- or under-employed. Business-to-consumer (B2C) platforms, BPO companies and above all, the ICT sector as a whole have seen sharp uptake on their businesses. The pandemic has also brought in the demand for a new set of skills that graduating students and fresh graduates need in addition to traditional education. The focus of employers has shifted to skills on adaptability, resilience, technology and remote communication to contribute to organizational growth.
